A Celebration of the Life & Music of Jackie Orszaczky
Description
A Tribute to Jackie Orszaczky
Jackie Orszaczky was a much-loved Hungarian-Australian bass player, vocalist, composer, arranger, producer, bandleader & a pioneer of jazz/ funk on the Sydney scene.
Initially touring Australia with famed Hungarian jazz rock band ‘Syrius’ in 1970, he returned in 1973 to join prog rock band ‘Bakery’. From 1975 to ’78, he was band leader for Marcia Hines.
In 1985 Jackie formed ‘Jump back Jack’ with jazz luminaries Linda Bacon, Miroslav Bukovsky, James Greening, Mark Simmonds, Mark Kennedy, Hamish Stuart, Peter O’Mara, Rick Morrison, Carl Orr, Phil Campbell & others. Recording two EPs, ‘Jump Back Jack’ was hugely influential on the ’80s Australian jazz/ funk scene.
His later bands, ‘Hungarian Rap Sadists’, ‘Industrial Accident’,’The Orszaczky Budget Orchestra’, ‘The Grand Masters’ & ‘The Godmothers’ were offshoots of JBJ, often featuring the same musicians, some of whom are reuniting tonight for this very special tribute to Jackie, his life & his music.
