Atlas Franklin Alexander
Description
Following the release of his debut EP ‘Enter Echo‘, Atlas Franklin Alexander has just returned with his first new music of the year in the gorgeously haunting cut ‘Crave‘ – produced, mixed and mastered by the artist himself at his home studio in Mulubinba/Newcastle.
‘crave’ washes over the listener like a rich sunset, driven by offbeat, syncopated bass lines and resolute drums. Angular guitars form the song’s bedrock as vocoder-laced vocals entrance with hook-laden melodies, breaking out into kaleidoscopic, reverb-soaked choruses. Atlas strikes a deft balance between sorrow and elation, reminiscent of post-punk luminaires like The Cure and New Order.
Atlas talks about the inspiration behind ‘Crave’:
“I’ve been writing this track and my second EP for the last 12 months. I have a little DIY studio in my house, and I’ve just been tinkering away. ‘Crave’ started on my acoustic guitar one evening, the chord progression, anyways. The vocal hook was written when I was driving to work one morning. I have a million voice notes on my phone that I randomly need to record when something comes to mind. They gelled well together, and ‘Crave’ was born.”
Accompanying the release is the track’s evocative music video, directed by the artist himself. Shot across NSW’s Hunter Valley, the DIY clip was shot with the help of friends, showcasing picturesque film of Australia’s landscapes. Atlas speaks on the music video, “the storyline is open to the viewer’s interpretation. I like the idea of having a storyline that can mean something different to everyone. Personally, I wanted to convey the feeling of craving something or someone. Trying to obtain the unobtainable.”
Atlas will perform a headline show at Oxford Art Gallery‘s Gallery Bar in Eora/Sydney and at Band Aid Festival in Mulubinba/Newcastle across April and May to celebrate the single. He’s previously sold-out headliner shows and supported the likes of Art vs Science, as well as being part of the 2018 line-up at BIGSOUND.
Previous releases have seen praise from blogs Pilerats, Life Without Andy, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, Junkee, Forte Mag, MILKY, GC Live, AAA Backstage and scenestr, with his music videos receiving play from ABC‘srage. They’ve also received radio love from triple j, triple j Unearthed, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide, Edge Radio, Radio Metro and SYN Media.
‘Crave’ will be available worldwide on Friday, March 31
