Bolstered by a band of local stars in their own right, the record oscillates between moments of an almost myth-making degree of coolness and breathtaking vulnerability. But it’s the voice of Babitha that provides an antidote for the themes and pallets that she contends with, marked by an almost meditative phrasing and tone that is always heart rending but never histrionic.
