Goldfynch is that something new and different we’ve been waiting to hear in Sydney: the brand new art-focussed contemporary music collaboration of multi-award winning Guitarist/Composer Gavin Rene Libotte and Singer/Songwriter Niyati Libotte. Gavin earned his stripes in jazz guitar at the Perth Con and through his masterful Latin Jazz outfit Urban Gypsies / Gavin Libotte. Niyati has a rich background in award-winning writing, audiovisual storytelling and emotive vocal performance in the Jazz haunts of France and Germany. Blending their mutual love for and eclectic taste in music, art and film, the result is something special; a rich merger of tone, emotion and energy that takes you on many journeys- by turns cinematic and aspirational, above all human. It’s storytelling in song, catharsis in sound.
Much like the symbol of the little songbird itself, Goldfynch offers an overarching message of hope and positivity through challenge and change. Drawing on influences from Ella to Air, the Beatles to Radiohead, Madeleine Peyroux to A.R. Raiman, Eva Cassidy to Coldplay, each song is a unique blend of jazz, acoustic pop, soft rock, classical and folk, with Indian, Latin and French influences. A true melting pot of musical traditions, this special cameo concert features the Trio with the incredible Byron Marks on keys and percussion, as well as featuring a few gems from Gavin Libotte’s suite of award-winning instrumental works.
Goldfynch’s eponymous debut vocal album, released mid-June, is a rich and layered experience, placing it as a Finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards and Silver Medalist in the art pop and album categories of the Global Music Awards. The original recordings feature the talents of stellar Sydney musicians including Aria-winning bassist Jonathan Zwartz, National Jazz Awards finalist Thomas Avgenicos on trumpet, award-winning violinist Ben Adler, veteran drummer James Hauptmann, cellist/composer Damian De Boos Smith, prolific pianist Bill Risby, Niyati Libotte on harmonium and the soulful Venkhatesh Sritharan on Bansoori.
The exciting new album release follows five previous instrumental albums under the Gavin Libotte and Urban Gypsies labels, which have toured the world and festivals for over 20 years.

U.S. Blues Blast magazine hailed her as the ‘Tsunami from Down Under’.
Most recently winning U.S. Blues Blast honorary mention, 2020 Unsigned Only best Blues, 2020 Canada’s Blues & Roots Radio best Blues Band and was 2020 Chain Award Nominated for Best Blues Artist & Best Album & Best Single Kate Lush has a raft of #1, multi award winning albums with songs from funky New Orleans grooves, R&B, Blues to soulful ballads.
Charting alongside the likes of Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, Samantha Fish, Taj Mahal & Robert Cray Kate is one of Australia’s most outstanding Blues & Soul vocalists. Gritty, soulful & straight from the heart.
Think Tedeschi with a dash of Aretha’s Soul & Bonnie Raitt’s harder rock edge! Blues, old school Funk, Rhythm & Soul …with New Orleans twist
U.S. Steel Notes Magazine – ‘Wow! Is all I can say!’ …’You’ll be playing this over & over again. What an epic CD, to say the least.’ ‘Kate grabs your attention with her amazing vocals. The band is very impressive. All the hooks are there. You’ll fall in love with ‘Goodbye To The Rain’. ‘Fall Down Seven Times’ reminds me of Bonnie Raitt singing one of her great soul songs’ ‘Please everyone, just a little time to check her & the band out’.
U.K. Blues Matters Magazine – ‘Kate is a superb singer’ ‘her vocal style is a soulful one where she is equally at home singing ballads or covering more gritty Rhythm & Blues songs. She certainly earns her stripes on the harder rocking song, Weakness, Dave Hole plays his slide to perfection, joining Matt Roberts to provide a twin guitar assault. These tracks are commercial songs that I am sure will be picked up for radio play. This a soulful and at times funky album full of excellent songs performed by a very tight band.
Sydney Morning Herald (Shortlist Albums) ‘There’s a very good soul and R&B package here’.
Blues Magazine – Netherlands ‘This album could well catch on with a fairly large audience’. ‘Goodbye To The Rain is comparable to the equally warm ‘Midnight Train To Georgia”.
Southern Rock – Brasil ‘Kate’s voice is powerful and engaging, with a Soul and R & B footprint, it’s up to the music, her band is very good, especially the guitarist Matt Roberts, and the songs are of the highest quality. It’s hard to hear Kate’s voice and not compare to that of Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt, it’s hard to believe that this singer is so unfamiliar. It’s a waste that Kate Lush’s Blues does not spread around the world.’
Sound Guardian – Kate’s inspires best elements of great musicians like Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt or Aretha Franklin have done. 11 songs recorded on the new album are really exceptionally powerful and inspirational. It’s striking & honest & strong presentation form. Kate Lush and her KLB will not leave anyone indifferent.
La Hora Del Blues – Spain ‘The voice of Kate Lush has been compared to world class female singers and so it is easy to imagine what you will find in her last work.’ An able singer, gifted with an amazing voice.’ ‘There is huge passion to all her songs that move between soul, ballads, blues and rock and will delight a wide audience.’ ‘It’s a well chosen repertoire performed from the heart, played produced and mixed with exquisite care. VERY GOOD’
