Glenn Whitehall
Description
As a singer/songwriter Glenn is a disciple of Southern US soulful rock/r’n’b, founding and fronting Sydney band Dog The Duke since 2014. Their 2015 release “The Breaker EP” (Matt Fell, Love HZ) saw singles “The Breaker” hit #1 on the iTunes blues charts and “Secondhand Blues” sit on the AMRAP regional top 10 for 5 weeks. With a revolving line up of pro players, performances over the east coast of NSW (including Sydney Blues Festival, Australian Music Week) won the band a solid fanbase and warm regard from peers and venues for their level of musicianship, onstage chemistry and professionalism. The guys have been privileged to open for Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges (Brass Monkey Cronulla), Russell Morris (Brass Monkey), Richard Clapton (Evan Theatre), The Radiators (Heritage Bulli), Ray Beadle (Bombie Bar), Marshall Okell (The Vanguard) & Chase The Sun (Beaches Thirroul).
Based in the Illawarra NSW, Glenn has circulated through the professional music scene in Sydney and the South Coast in various guises over the last 15 years- as frontman and writer for soul/rock band Dog The Duke, singer/guitarist/bandleader for The Getups and in a number of working bands and recording projects, and since 2012 as a voice teacher at Sydney’s Australian Institute of Music.
He had the priviledge of being part of Team Keith Urban on season 1 of “The Voice Australia” in 2012 and went on to tour as the solo support act for r’n’b legends Boyz II Men on their Australian tour in the same year, returning to The Voice in season 2, 2013, as part of the backing vocal team. More recently he has featured as part of NYE celebrations at Taronga Zoo (annually 2013-2016), profile tribute shows to classic rock acts including Pink Floyd, The Eagles & Fleetwood Mac, shared the stage with Adele for her stadium 2017 performances in Sydney, and featured as a panellist on Channel 7’s “All Together Now” in 2018.
Smitten by popular and indie rock music as a teen his influences have widened to include old rhythm and blues/soul, funk and classic songwriters. Playing over 150 gigs a year, he brings an easygoing, upbeat vibe to set, covering a huge range of styles and songs.
