Hen House Sessions featuring Tracy McNeil & Dan Parsons

past event

The Hen House Sessions have settled right in under the wings of The Great Club in Marrickville and are proud to present the first in this series with the incomparable Tracy McNeil and Dan  Parsons.

Acclaimed singer songwriters Tracy McNeil and Dan Parsons have joined forces to deliver a stunning evening of music for one night only at the Great Club. Drawing from McNeil’s Aria Nominated release ‘You Be the Lightning’, and Parsons’ glorious ‘Sunday Morning Cinema’ they captivate audiences through the campfire intimacy of folk storytelling, searing guitar solos of the Cocaine 70’s, sweet vocal harmonies and deft musicality with songs written for the here and now.

“You Be the Lightning should be forever considered an essential chapter of Australian alt-country and one of the first truly great records of 2020.”
Dan Condon – Double J

“Parsons’ ‘Sunday Morning Cinema’ is a glorious admixture of songwriting mastery, powerful vocal precision, and palpable reverence for West Coast country’s golden age”. – Gareth Hipwell, Country Update Magazine

As a singer/songwriter, Dan Parsons conjures up the essence of troubadour folk-rock and classic Americana influences, exploring the triumphs and anxieties of the human experience. Evoking the sun-hazed days of Laurel Canyon combined with the cinematic shine of the iPhone generation, his rich baritone voice and deft guitar style never fail to enthrall audiences of all ages.

McNeil’s Canadian roots are combined with a shimmering indie Americana sound that has garnered her critical praise around the country following her new release ‘You Be the Lightning’ through Cooking Vinyl Australia – home to such luminary songwriters as Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin and John Prine.

With high radio rotation on ABC throughout 2020, Feature Album on Double J, PBS FM and 2SER, followed by a coveted ARIA nomination for ‘Best Blues and Roots Album’ – McNeil capping off the run of accolades with a win for ‘Best Country Album’ at the Music Victoria Awards. Touring the album with her full band April-June 2021, she is thrilled to be playing stripped back in duo mode for this special Hen House Sessions.
