The Safety of Life at Sea are thrilled to be bringing their live stage show to Hopsters Cooperative Brewery – Playing a mix of blues and soul flavoured rock, the music is inspired by the classic songwriters of the 60’s and 70’s.
The Safety of Life at Sea are a four-piece band, Kris Schubert on vocals & keys, a soulful singer with keyboard prowess to match. A rhythm section which consists of Lian Wong on bass and Tony Bibby on drums who take a leaf out of the books of Motown and Stax. Stephen Helman on guitar throws in some licks from the book of Southern Blues left at the crossroads. Mix this up into a musical gumbo and you who have the sound of a band that went for a weekend in New Orleans and never quite came back.

“So the last band of this extraordinary weekend of music was Safety of Life At Sea. I know the lead singer/keyboard player Kris Schubert through these delicate piano pieces that he’s been doing since covid. I’ve never seen this band.
I did not expect this.
What a way to finish the weekend! This is a band that other musicians drool over, it’s superlative musicianship, its immaculate technique married to a groove that never ever quits. It’s music that’s just so honest, without artifice, it’s thumping bass from Lian, it’s immaculate drums Tony Bibby, masterful guitar and all through it Kris with his incredible keyboard chops and beautiful voice.
Do not ever pass up a chance to see them play. I would rate them up with Ben Folds, with Bernie Hayes Quartet, with the finest musicians Sydney has to offer.
