Mark Lucas – Live at Sappho

past event

Description

Australian roots music, it’s a sense of place. In singer-songwriter Mark Lucas’ world you’ll encounter ghosts of the past & yearning spirits of the present, making themselves known in a variety of familiar locales, together with a motley cast of misfits & dreamers who could fit in just about anywhere there’s people & stories to tell.

A familiar face on the Sydney roots scene, Mark’s current retrospective release “Prisoners of the Heart” features a selection of cuts from the 10 albums released in the last 20 years of his musical journey.

Some call it Americana with Australian stories…from bluegrass to blues, tempered by a sharp pop sensibility it’s a string-driven trip to a narrative heart.

“I’d place Mark Lucas in the same category where you find the late Townes Van Zandt and John Prine, or Robert Earl Keen: handsome, easy-to-the-ear melodies, beautiful, pure, at times bitter and sardonic lyrics, and a number of songs which you could immediately catalogue as “gets stuck in your head”.” – Dani Heyvaert, Rootstime.be (Belgium)
