Description

Sydney’s favourite selectors return with a New York deep house legend
Since joining forces at a humble Bondi Junction squash club more than 25 years ago, Sydney DJs Ken Cloud, Simon Caldwell, Zottie and Jimmi James – collectively known as Mad Racket – have become an iconic part of the city’s dance music scene, and the tastemaking pulse of Vivid LIVE’s Studio Parties for over a decade. This year, they’re back with one of their hottest guests to date: the legendary New York-born, Berlin-based deep house master, Fred P.

A New York club dancer of the late ’80s and early ’90s who took up music production, Brooklyn-born Fred P was part of the city’s house renaissance in the early aughts, DJing and releasing records under the moniker Black Jazz Consortium and later, the dub-inflected Anomaly. Infused with the healing idea of a collective consciousness, his sets are cathartic and spiritual, while his music – inspired by the future classicism of David Morales and Frankie Knuckles – recalls the deep grooves of vintage four-on-the-floor Detroit techno. Moving between rich, spacious grooves, silky house and dub, Fred P has carved out a singular niche, bringing a deep, meditative quality and mindfulness to even his hardest, high-tempo beats. As his friend and fellow selector Levon Vincent puts it, Fred P is simply a “genius”.

A night of blissful grooves that’s sure to dive deep, deep down into your soul.
