THE MISSING LINK > LINK WRAY REVUE > 2 BIG SETS!

past event

Description

The Missing Link has been playing Link Wray’s music for over 20 years — ever since we spied that amazing quiff on the cover of BULLSHOT, and were blown away by the first four bars of the first track. Link’s music has been the origin and pinnacle of rock’n’roll.
The Missing Link (named as we were astounded Link was not a major star and were determined to keep his music alive and kicking) have played just about every scuzz pub gig in Sydney, supported R. L. Burnside at the Basement (twice); blasted Frankie’s with a style they had never experienced before, and graced the stage of the legendary Longview Festival (twice!).
We recently had a trip to Merimbula to rock out with some original ‘50s dancers who don’t mind how cold it is or how loud we play … and a Day of the Dead bush knees-up somewhere down there that doesn’t have a name … just lots of bats and belles.
Inspired by, rather than reproducing Link’s music, we “interpret”, twist and race through the tunes, croon the songs and generally just turn up and go for it. Bones Martin is the only founding member still on the boards, now with Steve Borg on bass as a central unit of the band. Steve has brought a new vista to the sound: massive bass assault with finesse where needed, matched with soaring blasts of grunge that grab that bottom end and take it to punk/psychedelic realms.
Together with Pange*, a local Melbourne drummer who has signed up for the duration, we are expecting a blistering arvo of rock’n’roll — Link Wray style!
*Simon Wales plays drums in Sydney.
