Water Poem – Anna Hueneke and Inlay Ensemble

Anna Hueneke is a Sydney-based performance poet, visual artist and composer.

In a unique performance-art project Anna will read her longform poem ‘Water’ with Inlay Ensemble improvising the musical backing, based on their interpretation of responding to Anna’s text.

The musical content cannot be replicated in this context & thus, this is an event that can only be experienced.

Anna has performed her poetry at Poetica, Sydney Poetry Lounge, Pie in the Sky Poets, Word Travels, Australian Poetry Slam, ChangeFest, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney, The Women’s Club, National Council of Jewish Women, Sydney Jewish Museum, National Jewish Memorial Centre and Adelaide Holocaust Museum.

The Inlay Ensemble are an Improvising/New music string collective directed by Elsen Price. The group has performed at numerous events local to Sydney including public concerts, a performance for the retiring Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and events on Sydney Harbour. Inlay Ensemble received 4/5 stars in The Australian for their debut album ‘Songs for Habitual People’, released on Portuguese label ‘Creative Sources Recordings’.

Double Bassist Elsen Price is Director of the Inlay Ensemble & as featured artist, performed at Vivid Festival, Sydney Festival, MONA -as a composer Elsen has won ‘Best Soundtrack’ for Australian film ‘Dead Sunrise’ (2016) from International Independent Film Awards.

Adrian Keating was Principal Violinist with Opera Australia, directs the Sydney Lyric Orchestra & has led orchestras for Sir George Martin, Al Jarreau, Paris Opera Ballet touring twice to Sydney. Adrian created the string arrangements for Jimmy Barnes 2015 ‘Flesh & Wood’ National Tour. For over 5 years Adrian was Venue Manager for the Sydney live music venue ‘Music@ StreetMarket’

Susie Bishop is a highly versatile multi-instrumentalist and vocalist completing her studies in the UK majoring in Opera. Since returning to Australia her classical engagements have included soloist Soprano with the Parsons Affayre, The Marais Project, guest performances with The Song Company and St. James Choir, and a regular recital series at the Independent Theatre with pianist Emily-Rose Sarkova.

Connor Malanos: has 20 years of experience playing Violin/Viola. Connor is a founding Member of the Quart-Ed String Quartet performing as part of the QuartEd String Quartet in the 2019 VIVID Light festival. Connor has experience in jazz, tango, orchestras, various classical and contemporary chamber groups, as well as solo performance with a looping station as a BEATBOXER.

Tomas McKeever Ford is a Double and Electric Bass player, composer and arranger for Anoesis and Foshe ensembles. In 2019, Anoesis placed second in the 13th International Bucharest Jazz competition. Anoesis were also named 2MBS Fine Music’s Artists in Residence for 2021-2022. In 2018, Tomas opened for jazz-fusion icon Lonnie Liston Smith with his group Foshe.
